Axio Learning started in 1997 as a learning management system (LMS) at Kansas State University called K-State Online. K-State Online stemmed from a need by the K-State Division of Continuing Education (DCE) and a few distance education instructors who wanted to put their courses on the Web. As the usage of K-State Online increased by faculty and students at K-State, an interest in involving other institutions and groups outside of the K-State community grew. Axio 1.0, an affordable solution for educational institutions and those needing an effective distance education tool, was launched as a result of this interest.
