Tips & tricks

What do I have to do after Axio Learning Version 3.0 goes live on August 6?

Absolutely nothing. All your courses and course material will still be available in Axio Learning. Axio Learning will never delete or remove information from your courses. When you sign in to Version 3.0 on August 6, you will immediately notice the new My Organizer. To open one of your courses, click the course name. Previously, you clicked the wrench icon to open your course. If you want to see your course as a student would, click the View homepage link under your course name.

Attendance

Attendance is a new feature that tracks students’ attendance at pre-defined events. For each event, you can mark students as Present, Tardy, Absent (Excused), or Absent (Unexcused). To access this tool, make sure you install the Attendance component, and then click Attendance in the Users section. The Attendance Worksheet is empty until you click the Create New Event button in the menu and create attendance events. To make an attendance assignment, complete the following steps: create an event, and then record your students’ attendance for that event. Click the Convert to Assignment button to give an attendance grade.

Gating

Gating allows instructors to require students to access or complete specified course work before they are permitted to move on to other course work. Instructors can gate files, folders and assignments. You also have the Gating Progress tool, which allows you to monitor and manage students’ progress through the gates. Before gating your course, install the Gating component, and read the online help.

Course Statistics

Course Statistics is a new feature that allows you to view statistics on the number of accesses for each file within a course (File Views), most frequently used tools (Tool Usage), course usage by months, days, and hours (Visits), and individual student statistics (Student Usage). Course statistics are displayed in raw numbers and percentages, and in graphical format when possible, to help you track trends in course usage.

Practice Assignment

A new option called Practice Assignment is available, and it allows students to take an assignment and immediately see if they answered questions correctly or incorrectly. The Answer Key can be revealed when the instructor wants (including before the assignment expires) by setting a Key Posted date/time. When creating an online assignment, check the box next to Practice Assignment (under Show more options) to make the assignment a Practice Assignment. Click Edit the Assignment Settings to set the available and expiration dates, and if desired, key posted and grade posted dates.

Voice Recording Tool

In Manage Files, you can now record up to 20 minutes of audio, and then publish the MP3 file for your students. If the voice recording is in an RSS-enabled folder, then it will be podcasted. To create a voice recording, open Manage Files, click New Item, and select Voice Recording. For detailed information, read the online help.

My Organizer

You will immediately notice the new look of the organizer. We have also added several new functions to the Organizer such as the ability to hide courses, add comments to each course, and reorder courses. Also new is Recent Activity, which tracks and numerically reports changes within a course. Instructors can control if students see these activity reports, and users can customize the reports to show only relevant details. All of the extra functions in the Organizer are for your eyes only; your students and colleagues will not see your comments, Recent Activity or anything else.
